Leak Detection Cost in Las Vegas: What You Are Paying For
By American Brothers Plumbing · 2026-10-25 · 4 min read
The cost of professional leak detection in Las Vegas depends mostly on where the leak is and how hard it is to find: a leak in a wall near a fixture is quicker to locate than one under a concrete slab or in a buried line. You are paying for a precise location, so the repair opens up one small spot instead of a whole wall or floor.
That precision is the point. Here is what goes into the price, what you can check yourself before you call, and when paying for detection saves you money.
Why Hidden Leaks Are Worth Finding
Small leaks add up. According to the EPA's WaterSense program, the average household's leaks can account for more than 9,300 gallons of water wasted every year, and nine percent of homes have leaks that waste 50 gallons or more per day.
The water bill is only part of it. A leak inside a wall or under a floor soaks drywall, baseboards and flooring for weeks before it shows, and that damage usually costs far more than the leak itself.
Check Your Water Meter First
Before you pay anyone, you can confirm whether there is a leak at all:
- Turn off every faucet, appliance and the irrigation system.
- Open the water meter box, usually at the front of the property near the street.
- Look at the meter's leak indicator, a small dial or triangle that spins when any water is flowing. Note the reading too.
- Wait an hour or two without using any water, then check again.
If the indicator is moving or the reading has changed with everything off, water is going somewhere. The EPA also notes that if a family of four uses more than 12,000 gallons a month, there could be serious leaks.

What Sets the Price
1. Where the leak is. Under a sink or behind an access panel is quick. Inside a finished wall or ceiling takes more work. Under the slab or in the yard takes the most, because the search has to work through concrete or soil.
2. Which tools it takes. We use acoustic listening equipment that picks up the sound of water escaping a pressurized pipe, even through concrete or drywall, and thermal imaging that shows the temperature change caused by hidden moisture. Some leaks need both, plus pressure testing to isolate which line is losing water.
3. Hot or cold side. A hot water leak often shows up on thermal imaging as a warm spot, which can make it faster to trace. Cold side leaks rely more on acoustic work.
4. How many lines are involved. A house with one suspected leak is a simpler search than one with several damp spots or an irrigation system to rule out.
5. Repair at the same visit. Once the leak is pinpointed, we can often go straight on to the repair. Detection and repair are priced up front, so you know both numbers before work begins.

Professional Detection vs Opening Walls
The old way to find a leak was to open walls and floors until someone found the wet pipe. That approach is cheap only until you add up the drywall, tile and flooring restoration afterward.
Electronic detection narrows the search to a small area, so the repair opening is small and the restoration is minimal. For a leak under a slab, this matters even more: knowing the exact spot is what makes a targeted repair possible. Our guide to slab leak repair options explains what happens next once a slab leak is found.

Signs It Is Time to Call
- A water bill noticeably higher than the same month last year, with no change in use
- The meter's leak indicator moving with everything off
- The sound of running water when nothing is on
- Warm spots on a tile or concrete floor
- Damp patches, peeling paint or a musty smell with no visible source
- A drop in water pressure across the house
Several of these together, especially warm floors, point toward a slab leak. Our post on the signs of a slab leak covers them in more detail.
How to Get an Accurate Quote
You will get a clearer estimate if you can tell us:
- What you noticed first (bill, sound, damp spot, warm floor) and when.
- Whether the meter's leak indicator moves with all water off.
- Where any damp areas or stains are.
- The age of the home and whether it has been repiped.
